Scope of this Release ================ The Novell ATM LAN Emulation Client is a full featured ATM Forum compliant (LANE 1.0 and UNI 3.0/3.1) software stack that supports ethernet and token ring emulation, source route bridging and multiple ELANs. The LAN Emulation service components (LECS, LES, and BUS) are assumed to reside on the ATM switch or on a standalone workstation. The reader should be familiar with NetWare, ATM switching and LAN Emulation concepts. Refer to switch documentation for configuration of the LECS, LES, and BUS. Use the DOS command "label" to volume label a 3.5" high density diskette; ATM 2. Explode ATMDRV01.EXE ( ATMDRV01 A: ) to the diskette you created with the label "ATM" You will find the ATM-ODI drivers organized in directories by company name and the Novell ATM Lan Emulation Client in their respective Client32 and server directories. If you will be using the Madge or Efficient drivers copy them to the servers SYSTEM directory and install them. Insert the diskette with the volume label "ATM" in the server's drive A. 2. On a NetWare 4.10 or 4.11 server: a. LOAD INSTALL b. Select Product Options -> Install a product not listed (Press Enter to install from Drive A) -> Install Product -> Select server CONFIGURATION 1. LOAD INETCFG 2. From BOARDS menu a. Add ATM board. b. Add ATMELEC (or ATMTRLEC) logical board. Be sure to associate it with the ATM board configured in 2a (above) if there are multiple physical ATM boards. 3. From PROTOCOLS menu - Enable IPX (or IP) 4. From BINDINGS menu - Bind IPX (or IP) to ATMELEC (or ATMTRLEC) interface 2b(above) 5. Select REINITIALIZE SYSTEM 6. In your STARTUP.NCF, set Minimum and Maximum Packet Receive Buffers to be at least 600 and 1000. TROUBLESHOOTING 1. LOAD MONITOR to check if the ATM adapter is transmitting and receiving or to check LEC statistics. Verify that the adapter has registered with the ATM switch by checking the Number of Addresses Registered under Custom Statistics for the ATM adapter. 2. LOAD ATMELEC STATUS (or ATMTRLEC STATUS) to check connections to the LANE service components and other LAN Emulation Clients. 3. See ATMLEC.FAQ for further information. NOTE: The message "The ATM board ESI has not been registered with the switch. Verify switch connection" MAY appear while the ATMTSM is in the process of establishing connectivity to the switch and the ATMLEC has been loaded. This indicates a problem with the link ONLY when the message repeatedly appears every five seconds on the console screen. ================================================================= Installing the ATM LAN Emulation Client on Client32 workstations ================================================================= Installing the ATM LAN Emulation Client on DOS/Win3.x ===================================================== REQUIREMENTS 1. Client32 for DOS/Win 3.1 must already be installed on the workstation. 2. Use the latest version of Client32 available at www.novell.com INSTALLATION 1. Insert the diskette with the volume label "ATM" in the workstation's drive A. 2. Run a:\client32\INSTALL.BAT to copy the files to the client32 directory. Select the Dos/Win31 Install. (default directory is c:\novell\client32. If client32 is installed in a directory other than this, you must change all the references of c:\novell\client32 in INSTALL.BAT) 3. STARTNET.BAT and NET.CFG will be replaced. The previous versions will be saved as STARTNET.BAK and NET.BAK. 4. A UNI 3.1 compliant ATMTSM will be installed in c:\novell\client32\atmuni31. CONFIGURATION 1. The default configuration in STARTNET.BAT is for an ethernet LEC that connects to the ATM Forum well known LECS address. 2. You MUST select an ATM driver to load or specify the name of the ATM-ODI compliant driver for the ATM adapter in the workstation. *** NOTE: The drivers are packaged with ATMDRV01.EXE 3. Comment out the ATMELEC reference and un-comment the ATMTRLEC references in the STARTNET.BAT file for Token Ring Emulation and modify NET.CFG. 4. DO NOT edit your configuration with the Window's Client Control Panel. 5. Once installed, make sure to comment out the following line from CONFIG.SYS: rem Device=c:\novell\client32\location.exe TROUBLESHOOTING 1. LOAD ATMELEC STATUS (or ATMTRLEC STATUS) to check connections to the LANE service components and other LAN Emulation Clients. 2. Once LES and BUS VCCs are established, enter: f: and the system will prompt back with f:LOGIN From now on, you can login and use the system as though you are on an ethernet. After CLIENT32 is loaded, you may or may not see the message "Attached to server x". If the LEC STATUS is OPERATIONAL, but you cannot get to the network prompt, UNLOAD CLIENT32 and then LOAD CLIENT32. 3. In NET.CFG, verify that: a. Preferred Server, Preferred Tree and Name Context are specified if doing a directory login. b. Explicit NET BIND of IPX to 802.2 frame or other loaded frame type frame type is present. 4. Use IP utilities such as PING, FTP, etc. Installing the ATM LAN Emulation Client on Windows 95 ====================================================== REQUIREMENTS 1. Use the latest version of "IntranetWare Client 32 for Win95 2.2" which is available at www.novell.com, or on the BorderManager CD. 2. You must have the Windows 95 CD or installation disks. INSTALLATION Note: The following instructions are based upon the assumption that your setup falls under one of the following four setups. A. Setup if Win95 Client is already installed with an ATM and Network card. 1. Extract IntranetWare Client 32 for Win95 2.2 to a hard disk. For example: mkdir c:\client95 c:\client95\enw95221.exe through enw95226.exe (self-extracting files) 2. Remove all the network information in the Network Control Panel. Check in the registry to make sure the ATM card registry information is not there. If the registry information is still there go to step 3, otherwise skip to step 4. 3. Find and run regedit.exe in your c:\windows directory. Expand the tree to My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ENUM. Under ENUM you will find the ATM card information under either EISA or PCI depending on what type of card you have installed. Delete the ID corresponding to your card. The following are IDs corresponding to cards that have been tested: EFFICIENT EISA - ENI0001 EFFICIENT PCI - VEN_111A&DEV_0002 MADGE PCI - VEN_10B6&DEV_1001 4. Install Client32 for Windows95 by running setup.exe in the installation directory which you have created. (eg. c:\client95\setup.exe) 5. Restart system when prompted. The ATM card will be detected during startup. 6. You will be prompted to enter the Client32 for Windows95 disks. Enter the installation directory from which you installed the Client (eg. c:\client95\) for any reference to the Client diskettes. The required ATM-ODI drivers are on the diskette you prepared under the Madge or Efficient directories. For references for the Windows95 CD, specify the \WIN95 directory on your CDROM drive (eg. D:\WIN95). 7. From the "ATM" diskette, run a:\client32\install.bat to copy the files to the client32 directory. 8. Select the Win95 Install. (default directory is c:\novell\client32. If client32 is installed in a directory other than this, you must change all the references of c:\novell\client32 in INSTALL.BAT) B Setup if Win95 Client previously installed with no ATM card. 1. Extract the IntranetWare Client 32 for Win95 2.2 to a hard disk. For example: mkdir c:\client95 c:\client95\enw95221.exe through enw95226.exe (self-extracting file) 2. Install Client32 for Windows95 by running setup.exe in the installation directory which you have created. (eg. c:\client95\setup.exe) 3. When prompted to restart, click on No. 4. Goto the Start menu and shutdown your machine. 5. Insert the ATM card 6. Restart your machine. The ATM card will be detected during startup. 7. You will be prompted to enter the Client32 for Windows95 disks. Enter the installation directory from which you installed the Client (eg. c:\client95\) for any reference to the Client diskettes. The required ATM-ODI drivers are on the diskette you prepared under the Madge or Efficient directories. For references for the Windows95 CD, specify the \WIN95 directory on your CDROM drive (eg. D:\WIN95). 8. From the "ATM" diskette, run a:\client32\INSTALL.BAT to copy the files to the client32 directory. Select the Win95 Install. (default directory is c:\novell\client32. If client32 is installed in a directory other than this, you must change all the references of c:\novell\client32 in install.bat) C Setup if Win95 Client not installed with only an ATM card. 1. Extract the IntranetWare Client 32 for Win95 2.2 to the hard disk.For example: mkdir c:\client95 c:\client95\ENW95221.EXE through ENW95226.EXE (self-extracting file) 2. Install Client32 for Windows95 by running SETUP.EXE in the installation directory which you have created. (eg. c:\client95\setup.exe) 3. While installing Client32, you will be prompted to select a LAN driver. Select the card you have installed from the list of drivers and continue installation. 4. You will be prompted to enter the Client32 for Windows95 disks. Enter the installation directory from which you installed the Client (eg. c:\client95\) for any reference to the Client diskettes. The required ATM-ODI drivers are on the diskette you prepared under the Madge or Efficient directories. For references for the Windows95 CD, specify the \WIN95 directory on your CDROM drive (eg. D:\WIN95). 5. From the "ATM" diskette, run a:\client32\install.bat to copy the files to the client32 directory. Select the Win95 Install. (default directory is c:\novell\client32. If client32 is installed in a directory other than this, you must change all the references of c:\novell\client32 in install.bat) D Setup if Win95 Client was not installed with a Network card and an ATM card. 1. Extract the IntranetWare Client 32 for Win95 2.2 to a hard disk. For example: mkdir c:\client95 c:\client95\enw95221.exe through enw95226.exe (self-extracting file) 2. Go to the Network window in the Control Panel and clear all client and LAN card information. 3. Shut down your system. 4. Remove network card. 5. Insert ATM card. 6. Restart your system. You will get a message "New Hardware Found". 7. Select "Do not install a driver (Window will not prompt you again)". 8. Install Client32 for Windows95 by running setup.exe in the installation directory which you have created. (eg. c:\client95\setup.exe) 9. While installing Client32, you will be prompted to select a LAN driver. Select the card you have installed from the list of drivers and continue installation. 10. You will be prompted to enter the Client32 for Windows95 disks. Enter the installation directory from which you installed the Client (eg. c:\client95\) for any reference to the Client diskettes. The required ATM-ODI drivers are on the diskette you prepared under the Madge or Efficient directories. For references for the Windows95 CD, specify the \WIN95 directory on your CDROM drive (eg. D:\WIN95). 11. From the "ATM" diskette, 12. Run a:\client32\install.bat to copy the files to the client32 directory. Select the Win95 Install. (default directory is c:\novell\client32. If client32 is installed in a directory other than this, you must change all the references of c:\novell\client32 in install.bat) CONFIGURATION 1. Once the Client is installed and Windows95 is restarted, you will have basic connectivity for LAN emulation on ethernet, by default. To select token-ring emulation or to select other frame types, go to the Network window in the Control Panel. 2. Under the list of network adapters, double click on the installed card to get a list of tabbed items. 3. Under the ATM Driver tab, select either: "Enable ODI support for NDIS protocols on Ethernet" (by default) or "Enable ODI support for NDIS protocols on Token-Ring." All the frame types for the selected ELAN will be selected. (each frame type represents a different page with its own set of load line attributes. No other parameters need to be specified for default operation where the LEC connects to the well known LECS address). 4. Check the BINDINGS tab to make sure that IPX is bound. 5. Select OK. Restart Windows 95 when prompted. 6. For IP support, enable the MS TCP/IP stack and make sure that the ODI support for NDIS box is checked as specified in (2.) above. TROUBLESHOOTING 1. In a situation where you cannot get ATMLEC to load, or you cannot start Win95, start in safe mode and remove all the network information in the Network Control Panel. Run Regedit and delete the ATM card information if if it is there. Restart Win95 and allow it to re-detect your ATM card. 2. LOAD ATMELEC STATUS (or ATMTRLEC STATUS) to check connections to the LANE service components and other LAN Emulation Clients. Once LES and BUS VCCs are established, you can use the NetWare login (this should occur at boot time.) From now on, you can login and use the system as though you are on an ethernet (or token ring). 3. From the Network window in the Control Panel, click on Client32. 4. Verify that: Preferred Server, Preferred Tree and Name Context are specified. 5. Check to make sure that the following files have been updated: In \NOVELL\CLIENT32: ATMELEC.LAN, ATMTRLEC.LAN, ATMTSM.NLM, PARSER.NLM 6.
