README - WDOVRLY1 PROGRAM SUMMARY: This program will fix a minor issue that may exist between some Western Digital hard drives and some PC BIOS'. We have encountered some cases in AsusTek P55TP4N and P55TP4XE motherboard with Award BIOS revisions 0110 through 0115. During POST, you may hear the drive begin to spin-up and shortly thereafter produce a sharp noise. This action could cause media damage and data loss. Please keep in mind, this only occurs during POST. Hence, once the system has been powered on, IMMEDIATELY enter CMOS setup. Once the drive has spun up to speed, then exit CMOS and load the WDOVRLY1.EXE. This program is menu driven, and will NOT upgrade a drive's firmware unless it is necessary. If the conditions above apply to your system, we recommend you use this utility and upgrade your system BIOS. The Award BIOS upgrade for ASUSTeK motherboard is available via: http://www.asus.com.tw "Asus Product Related Information" "BIOS Update" "Pentium M/B BIOS" "tx5i0202.zip" (or any version 0201 or higher) To run this program, the user must execute WDOVRLY1 from a floppy. Although this program is non-data destructive, please do not run unless the conditions above exist. The "Select Drive" menu will autodetect all hard drives currently installed and inform the user which, if any, of the Western Digital hard drives need to be modified. A drive will need to be modified only if a "YES" value is specified for that drive in the NEW OVERLAY REQUIRED column. After the user SELECTS the appropriate drive, the "Modify Drive Overlay" menu will allow the user to update the Western Digital drive. The user also has the option to run a non-destructive Read/Verify test on the selected drive. If more than one Western Digital drive requires modification, the user should return to the "Select Drive" menu, choose the next drive to be updated and then go to the "Modify Drive Overlay" menu to perform the update. WDOVRLY1 is a Non-Destructive program. User data will not be affected. TO RUN THE PROGRAM: Put WDOVRLY1.EXE on a floppy, and put that floppy into your floppy drive (normally A:). Type WDOVRLY1 to run the program. COMMAND LINE OPTIONS: -L send results to a logfile. LOG FILE: The log file is named WDOVRLY1.LOG DRIVES SUPPORTED: All types of drives will be detected, but only the following selected models of Western Digital drives will need to be updated: AC32500H CCC:F1 AC32100H CCC:F1 AC31600H CCC:A1, A2, B0, B1, B2, B3 AC21600H CCC:F1 AC21200H CCC:E0, E1 AC21000H CCC:A1, A2, B0, B1, B2, E0, E1 VERSION HISTORY: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.00 05/23/96, wad Initial release. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
