IMPORTANT

"Short" and "Open" in the explanation of this section have following meaning.

Short:The short plug is mounted between specific pins.
Open:The short plug is removed between specific pins.

IMPORTANT

  1. Set the SCSI ID so that there are no duplicates between SCSI devices on the same SCSI bus.
  2. The priority of SCSI bus use in ARBITRATION phase is determined by SCSI ID as follows:
    7>6>5>4>3>2>1>0

(2)SCA type 16-bit SCSI model (M294xE, M295xE)
There is no SCSI ID setting terminal for SCA type model.
Set the SCSI ID using ID0,ID1,ID2, and ID3 signals on the SCSI interface connector(CN1).

(3)Single-ended 16-bit SCSI model (M294xQ, M295xQ)

Table 1.2 shows the SCSI ID setting. Refer to Figures 1.3 and 1.9 for M294xQ, and Figure 1.6 and 1.10 for M295xQ.

IMPORTANT

When the SCSI ID is set using the external operator panel connector CN1, all pins listed in Table 1.2 should be open.
If any of pins are shorted, unexpected SCSI is set.

2. Each mode setting

(1)Motor start mode
Set how to control the starting of the HDD spindle motor according to the Table 1.3. This setting only determines the operation mode when the power supply is turned on or the microcode is downloaded. In both modes, stopping or restarting the spindle motor can be controlled by specifying the START/STOP UNIT command.

This setting is not provided for SCA type 16-bit SCSI model (M294xE, M295xE).

Refer to Figures 1.1 and 1.7 for M294xS, Figures 1.4 and 1.8 for M295xS, Figure 1.3, and 1.9 for M294xQ, and Figures 1.6 and 1.10 for M295xQ.

(2)SCSI bus parity
Set whether the SCSI data bus parity bit check is performed according to Table 1.4.
This setting is not provided for SCA type 16-bit SCSI model(M294xE, M295xE)
Refer to Figure 1.1 and 1.7 for M294xS, Figure 1.4 and 1.8 for M295xS, Figure 1.3 and 1.9 for M295xQ.

(3)Offline self-diagnostics
Starting/stopping the HDD offline self-diagnostics can be set (see Table 1.5.) The offline self-diagnostics can test the normality of the HDD controller function and the basic read/write operation of the disk drive.
In normal operation,the setting terminals must be open. Refer to Figures 1.1 and 1.7 for M294xS, Figures 1.4 and 1.8 for M295xS, Figure 1.3 and 1.9 for M294xQ, Figures 1.6 and 1.10 for M295xQ, Figures 1.2 and 1.11 for M294xE, and Figures 1.5 and 1.11 for M295xE.

3. Write protect,terminating resistor setting

(1)Write protect
When the write protect function is enabled, writing to the disk medium is disabled. The write protect function setting is not provided to the SCA type 16-bit SCSI model(M294xE, M295xE).

(2)Connection of terminating resistor on SCSI interface
a.Single-ended 8-bit SCSI model(M294xS,M295xS)

The setting terminal enables the terminating resistor circuit on the HDD to be connected on the SCSI interface.

Refer to Figures 1.1 and 1.7 for M294xS, and Figures 1.4 and 1.8 for M295xS.

b.SCA type 16-bit SCSI model(M295xE)

Since there is no SCSI terminating resistor on the SCSI interface for SCA type 16-bit SCSI, there is no setting on the HDD. However, the HDD has the terminating resistor for SCSI data but DB08 to DB15 and DBP1 with considering that SCSI data bus DB08 to DB15 and DBP1 are not used when 16-bit SCSI model is used as 8-bit model. When all SCSI bus (DB00 to DB07,DBP0,DB08 to DB15, and DBP1) are used on the SCSI interface and the SCSI termination is made on the system, this setting is not needed.

Refer to Figure 1.2 and 1.11 for M294xE, and Figure 1.5 and 1.11 for M295xE.

When connecting the terminating resistor, use the spare plug mounted on CN6 1-2

c. Single-ended 16-bit SCSI model (M294xQ,M295xQ)

Setting terminals CN10 1-2 and 3-4 set whether to use the terminating resistor circuit on the SCSI interface provided for the HDD (see Table 1.9)

The HDD provides two terminating resistor circuits(for DB00 to DB07 and DBP0, and for DB08 to DB15 and DBP1) with considering that SCSI data bus DB08 to DB15 and DBP1 are not used when 16-bit SCSI model and as 8-bit SCSI model.

When the SCSI bus (DB08 to DB15 and DBP1) is not used on is not connected to the terminatating resistor on the system when the 16-bit SCSI model is used as 8-bit SCSI model, set according to Tabel 1.9.

IMPORTANT

When the external operator is connected using the external operator panel connector CN1, this setting is effective only when the A9 pin (DISCON) is open.

4. Mode settings

In addition to the previously described settings using setting terminals, the HDD is provided several mode settings.
The mode settings are enabled by specifying the CHANGE DEFINITION command. Table 1.10 lists the mode settings and their settings at factory shipment.
