Direct X 3.0 NOTE: The Direct X files are for use with Microsoft Windows 95 ONLY. WinG can be installed under both Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 safely. Direct X: Direct X are the latest driver extensions for Windows 95 that Microsoft has released. Basically they allow software (like games) to directly write to the memory of hardware (like video cards, sound cards, etc). This speeds up games and makes it possible for developer's to create games that (eventually) will look just as good or better than console type games by allowing for full screen panning (smoothly) and 3D style sound effects. Direct X 2.0: Direct X 2.0 is essentially the same as Direct X but adds support for DirectSound drivers that give you 3D sound effects, Directdraw which makes the rendering of game images faster, and more. We provide these drivers here because they are now required for many games. Please note that this version of Direct X will over-write your current video drivers (not literally, it'll switch them). This may cause you some problems with your video card as we have experienced a great deal of trouble with our Diamond video cards and Direct X 2.0. Direct X 3.0: The new Direct X 3.0 drivers add everything from the previous 2 versions of Direct X but now contain: Direct 3D - allows smooth, flowing 3D graphics; Direct Input - adds digital functionality for extra fast response times from joysticks; Direct Play and much more. Note: You must uncompress the zip file in a directory named: "directx". Otherwise the installation program will come back with an error message when you try to install the drivers.
