Matrox MGA-G200 D3D Wrapper Readme File ----------------------- Support for glQuake engine and Quake 2 engine based games is supported via a 'Direct3D' wrapper on G200 based boards. This D3D wrapper simply maps OpenGL calls onto the Direct3D driver of the MGA-G200. Please note that the D3D wrapper will only work for glQuake and Quake 2 based games. It is in no way intended to support other OpenGL applications. This wrapper will only work in Windows 95 or Windows 98. Using the Direct3D Wrapper on the MGA-G200 ------------------------------------------ How to install the driver: The Direct3D Wrapper requires that Microsoft's DirectX6 is installed on the system. * Copy the opengl32.dll file into the Quake 2 directory on your system. * DO NOT COPY OPENGL32.DLL TO THE WINDOWS/SYSTEM DIRECTORY. * The current windows desktop mode must be in either 16bpp or 32bpp. * From within Quake 2, go to the "Video" menu, select "DEFAULT OPENGL", then APPLY. Known issues and workarounds: ----------------------------- Game colors too dark: On some monitors, the game may appear too dark. Their are a number of ways to correct this issue. 1. The best way is by using the utility "idGamma" (available with the download). Updated information and the latest version of idGamma can be found at the link given below: idGamma homepage: http://members.esslink.com/~farmer/main.html Please read the idgammafaq.txt file that comes in the zip file for instructions on how to use this utility. Note: You MUST select the default settings for "idGamma" in order for the fix to work. 2. Another option is to modify the Gamma from the "Color" tab from the Matrox Display Properties (Note that you may want to reset it to default when returning to the desktop). 3. The third option is to adjust color brightness using the Brightness control in the game's menu. 4. The fourth option is to use the brightness adjustments on your monitor. Consult your monitor's user manual for details. For glQuake Make sure that you have version 0.93 of glQuake installed on your system. For any other glQuake engine or Quake 2 based game, make sure that you copy opengl32.dll to the same directory where the games executable resides.
